The more wealth you can amass, the higher your social standing. It is important to note that having wealth is not an indictment. However, the privileges that have often led to inequalities in wealth distribution are real. As a social worker, you may find yourself working with clients who do not enjoy the privileges you knowingly or unknowingly enjoy. The more you understand your own relationship to power, privilege, and class, the better you will understand your clients’ realities. For this Discussion, review how classism is represented in the Hernandez family.

Solution:

In the Hernandez video, the social worker informs the supervisor that the Hernandez parents have accumulatively missed four of parental classes. The social worker insists that they will have to repeat the classes, which is anticipated to be tough for them. The classism exhibited in the video is the declaration by the social worker that Hernandez family were not the most suitable candidates based on their financial position, she further mentions that father has to miss overtime work to attend the parental classes which is highly inconveniencing as he substantially relies on and needs the money to make ends meet. One key barrier that hinders the Hernandez family is their poor financial situation in that they have to work extra and thus lack time for attending social welfare programs.
