(Solution) nr701 Week 3

In the lesson this week you learned there are at least four databases that should always be used when you are looking for evidence to make a change in practice. These are CINAHL, MEDLINE, Cochrane and the Joanna Briggs Institute.

For this discussion, use the quantitative PICOT question you based on the Organizational Needs Assessment you have been working on/completed.

Perform a search for quantitative research within all four of these databases. Identify the search terms, as well as the type of filters you used in your search (dates of publication, peer-reviewed sources, etc.).

Summarize the type of quantitative evidence you found within each database. How many articles within each database were found to be evidence-based? What type of strategies will you use to determine which of the articles will best support your proposed project idea?

Please feel free to use a table to provide your response(s) for ease of use and reading.

Consider these reflective questions as you formulate your post:

1. What challenges, if any, did you encounter when searching within the various databases? What strategies did you use to overcome them and why?

  1. What additional search terms can you use when looking for evidence based on your project?
  2. How did you determine that some of the evidence you found was unacceptable and/or not able to be used as part of your DNP Project?
  3. What strategies will you use as you continue to search for evidence on your topic?

Solution:

CINAHL, MEDLINE, Cochrane, and Joanna Briggs Institute databases are highly crucial for retrieving evidence based articles for medical related project research. Cogan, Blanchard, Garber, Carlson and Clark (2017) state that, search databases, when effectively used, can provide one with the necessary evidence to aid in implementing practice changes within healthcare environment. The search terms I used for my PICOT include: pressure ulcers, long term home patient health care, standard hospital beds and low mattresses and fluid filled products. The filters I applied were peer-reviewed articles as I needed credible evidences and 5 years or less since date of publication as I needed current evidences. I have been using these databases extensively to research evidence for supporting the use of alternating low air loss mattresses and fluid filled products such as roho cushion/elastic foam in the management and prevention of pressure ulcers for patients in home health care.  All evidences obtained from the literatures in………..Please click the Paypal icon below to purchase full solution for only $5
