The five rights process is a medication administration approach that is used to reduce the risk of harm and errors associated with drugs. These rights which include the right drug, right patient, right dosage, right time, and right route are used to reduce the medication error and blame to the healthcare providers. According to Grissinger (2010), these rights promote patient quality outcome and safety. Essentially, not only should the correct medication be provided to the patient based on their condition but also administered through the right route and according to the required specifications.
