Chapter 5: Conclusions

5.1 Introduction

This chapter provide conclusions in regards to the findings derived from the previous chapter. This is in regards to the impact of communication, trust, collaboration, and interdependence on supply chain performance.

5.2 The impact communication on Higer’s supply chain performance

Communication has significantly helped in improving supply chain performance of Higer Company. Precisely, through communication, productivity has been increased due as there is no repeated communication, which would otherwise result to time wastage. Additionally, it can be deduced from the responses that communication helps in setting priorities and assigning of tasks, which in turn improves supply chain performance. Lastly, it has been established from the responses that effective communication in the supply chain of Higer Company helps in increasing the morale of the workers, thus making them more productive in the supply chain. The findings have matched the assertion of past studies. For instance, according to Huo et al. (2014), communication in supply chain plays a crucial role in increasing productivity. Besides, as found out by Martínez-Jurado and Moyano-Fuentes (2014), through effective communication, it becomes easier to set priorities as well as assigning tasks.

5.3 The impact of trust on Higer’s supply chain performance

The impact of trust on the supply chain performance cannot be overlooked. Precisely, through trust in the supply chain, there is typically reduction of transaction cost owing to the fact that transactions do not need to be scrutinised and verified. Additionally, it is through trust in the supply chain that there is promotion of efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity, which in turns enhances the overall performance of the supply chain.  Trust in supply chain, also helps greatly in creating value added activities between supply chain partners, which as a result improves the overall supply chain performance.  These findings have tallied with past studies considerably. For instance, as Razavi et al. (2016) assert, it plays a vital role in enhancing productivity as well as effectiveness of the supply chain. Additionally, Hoejmose et al. (2012) have indicated that when trust is prevailing between the seller and the buyer within the supply chain, it usually becomes possible to create value added activities between the partners

5.4 The impact of cooperation on Higer’s supply chain performance

The significance of cooperation in the supply chain of paramount importance as far as supply chain performance is concerned.  Precisely, it has been established that cooperation in supply chain plays a huge role in reducing uncertainties during the transaction process. This as a result simplifies the supply chain performances, thus improving the performance. Besides, it has been established that cooperation in the supply chain helps partners in understanding the expectations as well as needs of each other in a better way, thus helping in achieving mutual goals as well as objectives. The impact of this is improved supply chain performance.  Cooperation in the supply chain has also been seen to help in maintaining long term relationships with the customer, thus enhancing customer loyalty.  Lastly, it has been that cooperation in the supply chain greatly helps in making the involved parties make the right decision in regards to all the activities in the supply chain. 5.5 The impact of interdependence on Higer’s supply chain performance

Interdependence in the supply chain is fundamental when it comes to enhancing the overall supply chain performance. Precisely, through interdependence in the supply chain, it has been established that, there is growth of trust and commitment between supply chain partners, which as a result enhances supply chain performance.  Besides, when trust and commitment between the supply chain partners increase, customers are usually able to get their products on time, and in the right quantity as well as quality. Consequently, the performance of the supply chain is boosted considerably. Additionally, it has been established that interdependence between supply chain partners, confidence and expectation that one party will keep the promise is usually there.
